Sydney Sixers 2025-26 Season Highlights

Both Sixers teams enjoyed strong regular seasons but fell agonisingly short of silverware. The men finished second on the ladder with a 7-1 record, boosted by Babar Azam’s arrival and late-season returns from Steven Smith and Mitchell Starc, before losing the Grand Final to Perth Scorchers after being bowled out for 132. The women also finished second, going 6-5-1, but were eliminated in the Challenger by the same Perth Scorchers outfit.

  • Ellyse Perry (412 runs) and Sophia Dunkley (354 runs) led the women’s batting, with Ashleigh Gardner topping the bowling
  • Teenager Caoimhe Bray took a hat-trick against Sydney Thunder Women
  • The men reached the final via a comfortable 57-run Challenger win over Hobart Hurricanes

Virtually, the players are here for another deep charge. The men retain the core of Moises Henriques, Steve Smith, Josh Philippe and Mitchell Starc, with Sam Curran and Babar Azam again the available overseas picks, providing the top order with genuine firepower and depth in pace and spin with the likes of Ben Dwarshuis and Todd Murphy.

The bigger question mark is coaching continuity, the post is now vacant after Shipperd’s departure, and how that transition is handled could determine early-season form. The women’s group is largely the same ballpark with Perry and Gardner still featured, and a settled top order will again see them pushing finals contenders, but breaching against Perth Scorchers, who have now bested them in consecutive finals series, is definitely the bar to eventually grabbing the title.
